About us

Welcome

Akshar centre of education follows the system of integral education as formulated by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. Integral means total; our system also addresses the totality of the being. Our aim is to nurture and develop five principle aspects of a child – physical, emotional, volitional, mental and spiritual. Yogic traditions say, “The mind is like the agitated surface of a lake. Calm the mind so that the sun of knowledge can reflect in it without distortion”. Akshar strongly believes knowledge is not something that it seeks to impart to the children, rather evoked from within. Opportunities and carefully selected materials are presented to the children in such a way as to stimulate them to an inner activity.

Philosophy

Sri Aurobindo and The Mother

The three principles of true teaching are:

1. Nothing can be taught

The teacher is not an instructor but a helper/guide whose business is to suggest and not to impose. He does not impart knowledge but shows the child how to acquire knowledge for himself.

2. The mind has to be consulted in its own growth

Every child is a spark of God, who has come down here on Earth in order to grow through experiences. The task is to find it, develop it and use it.

3. Work from near to far

If anything has to be brought in, it must be offered, not forced on the mind. The knowledge is inherent within all of us; the knowledge of what we need to give to the child to nourish and to help him / her to grow to be himself/ herself truly.
